TIME TO SCIENCE!!!

What's A Mole?

Why the Cheetos?

So, what is a mole?

Basically, this is a mole:

A basic mole

I'm sure you've heard this joke 6.022*10^23 times

avogadro

In this case, this is actually a mole:

6.022*1023

And if you don't like scientific notation...

≈602200000000000000000000 (pretty big number)

It's all thanks to this guy, Avogadro. This number is the amount of substance of a system that contains as many elementary emtities as there are atoms in 12g of carbon-12.

So if I had a mole of Cheetos... what would it look like?

The average Cheeto is 5cm.

The Andromeda galaxy is 2.401*1019 km away from Earth.

If a mole of 5cm Cheetos were placed end to end, how many times could it travel to Andromeda? (And back?)

6.022*1023 (One mole)

5 cm

1 m

1 km

1 trip to Andromeda

1 Cheeto

100 cm

1000 m

2.4*1019 km

Doing the math, a mole of Cheetos can go to Andromeda 1 complete time, and a quarter ways back. (=1.25)

THAT IS A LOT OF CHEETOS. KEEP IN MIND THIS COOL GALAXY IS 2.4*1019 KM AWAY THAT IS VERY FAR WOAH!!!!

THAT'S ≈24010000000000000000 KM AWAY! GOOD LUCK GETTING THERE IN ONE TANK OF GAS!

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!

And that, was some science.
